Benefits

This isn't just another job placement service – this is about enriching organizational leadership through culture cultivation and matching Agencies and Fellows to facilitate better service provision, social change, and the development of future leaders in the sector.

Benefits of being a Sponsoring Agency:

  • Turning the Tide attracts and retains young people for human service agencies

  • Fellows make a two-year commitment to provide agencies with direct service

  • Public Allies, Inc. recruits and screens Fellow applicants and brings in young people from outside regular recruitment pools

  • Fellows are passionate folks who have a variety of experiences, are attracted to service, and want to change their world

  • Research has shown that a local supportive cohort, continuous learning opportunities, and meaningful hard work makes for a great first job for the “millennial” generation--and all of these are central to Turning the Tide

  • CEOs of human services agencies helped to develop this program to fit the needs of the sector

  • Fellows receive regular skills training on Public Allies leadership values such as a focus on assets, inclusion, collaboration, integrity, and continuous learning that they apply to their Agency work

  • Fellows are self-identifed leaders who want to be a part of the next generation of leadership in the human services field

  • Fellows receive additional benefits as AmeriCorps members: a national network of colleagues, training and support around serving communities, loan deferment while in the Fellowship, and an educational award to repay student loans or pay for additional education

  • Fellows incorporate an independent study into their 2nd year of service to engage staff and the local community around issues important to the Sponsoring Agencies; the forthcoming independent study will be based on Emerging Leadership in Human Services; the Fellows will work together to convene Emerging Leaders and those who supervise them
