Agencies sponsor Fellows who are pre-screened by Public Allies, Inc. for leadership potential and commitment to a career in human services.
Agencies must be members of the Alliance for Children and Families and ensure they will:
- Adhere to a non-discrimination disclaimer, meaning agencies will not discriminate against Fellows on the basis of race, color, religious creed, ancestry, age, sexual orientation, national origin, non-job related handicap or disability, or political affiliation
- Ensure Fellows will not be involved in voter registration or other overtly political, religious, or advocacy activities (including organizing labor unions, activities around proposed or active legislation, and proselytizing)
- Provide direct service job descriptions with at least one measurable outcome as part of the application
- Maintain any necessary clerical functions below 20% of Fellow time
- Run criminal background checks on Fellows before the beginning of service, including a check from the NSOPR
- Supervise and mentor Fellows to groom them as young leaders in the human services field
- Track Fellows’ time by the type of work, including service, training, and fundraising activities (a template for time tracking is available)
- Document performance reviews with Fellows every 6 months
- Engage in Turning the Tide evaluation activities and other program activities as requested
- Participate in the Promising Practices of the Alliance for Children & Families
