Public Allies New York Fellowship Program

The Public Allies New York Fellowship is a unique program for young adults interested in careers in youth development.  We currently seek promising young talent to serve as Fellows for one year in New York-based nonprofits where they will create, improve and expand services related to youth development and community outreach.

Fellows will gain experience in working with youth in various capacities, while receiving leadership development, coaching, access to professional networks and other career benefits. Fellows will also receive a $4,725 educational award upon completion of the apprenticeship, as well as loan deferment and interest forgiveness.

The January 2009 New York Fellowship Program is a collaboration between Public Allies and Youthline America.

Opportunities for Fellows

  • Impact the lives of young people through challenging positions with a New York-based nonprofit organization

Benefits to Fellows

  • A monthly stipend of $1,600
  • A $4,725 Educational Award upon completing the program
  • Healthcare, childcare (if eligible) and student loan deferment

Qualifications

  • Must be between 18 and 30 years old
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or have legal permanent resident status
  • 1-3 years of professional experience, preferably in the field of youth development, information technology, web communications or community outreach

Timeline

  • Accepting applications now! Applications due December 15, 2008.
  • Interviews begin December 17, 2008
  • Apprenticeship begins January 2009 and ends December 2009
