Public Allies Pittsburgh

At Public Allies Pittsburgh, we believe changing times call for a new kind of leadership. Since 2006, we’ve developed young leaders. Allies are young, diverse, and passionate social change makers who support  community projects in partnership with hundreds of local nonprofit organizations.

Our Allies change their lives and our community through a rigorous AmeriCorps program that combines full-time, paid apprenticeships in nonprofits with intensive skills training, active community-building projects, personalized coaching, and critical reflection. We provide all of this through a nationally recognized approach that’s rooted in a practice of values.

Public Allies Pittsburgh launched its site in partnership with the Coro Center for Civic Leadership (CLICK HERE FOR CORO's WEBSITE) in April of 2006.  In its inaugural year, the class included 25 AmeriCorps members serving as apprentices at 16 partner organizations. Allies also completed leadership development training and worked in small teams to implement sustainable service projects for local organizations.

WE ARE HERE!

Public Allies Pittsburgh staff have recruited over 249 locally connected individuals of which 77 were selected to serve as apprentices in nonprofits across the region

WE ARE DIVERSE!

Of the 77 allies chosen for the program: 64% were female, 36% male, 49% White, 45%  African-American, 6% Hispanic and Asian Descent, 28% H.S. Diploma/GED/ or Some College, 61% College Degree, 10% Graduate Degree or higher.

WE SERVE!

As AmeriCorps members, Pittsburgh Allies have dedicated over 108,000 volunteer hours to Pittsburgh residents, communities and nonprofits.  In addition, our allies have served over 74,000 people and recruited over 4,500 volunteers to help the region.

WE BUILD CAPACITY!

Public Allies Pittsburgh has leveraged $900,000 of federal funding into the Pittsburgh nonprofit sector.  Through providing talented young leaders from diverse backgrounds with opportunities  to create careers we have saved  nonprofit partners over  1.5 million dollars in staff hiring/development costs.
