Click here to support Public Allies North Carolina
As one of the first sites in PA network, Public Allies North Carolina has developed 192 young leaders in the past 15 years. The Allies are diverse and passionate social change makers who support community projects in partnership with hundreds of local nonprofit organizations. The Public Allies experience is unlike any other, as we expect a great deal from our members. We conduct an intensive leadership series designed to prepare young people with the professional and personal skills for public sector jobs, and we do so with an eye towards helping our members embrace and maintain a solid foundation in community-centered core values. Our Allies change their lives and our community through a rigorous AmeriCorps program that combines full-time, paid apprenticeships in nonprofits with intensive skills training, active community-building projects, personalized coaching, and critical reflection. We provide all of this through a nationally recognized approach that is rooted in our core values. The Allies range in age from 18 to 30, with over 48% being people of color, and 15% identifying as LGBTQ. We're creating pathways for a stronger community and a lifetime of impact. Over 80% of our alumni continue a career in the nonprofit and public sectors, and about 90% of Alumni say they would participate again if they could. Partner organizations report that their work with an Ally increases their capacity by up to 30%! Results like these have led the Public Allies program to be recognized as a model for national service.
