Who We Are
Public Allies Milwaukee is a program of University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee's School of Continuing Education, and a proud member of the AmeriCorps national service network. We’re changing the face and practice of leadership in Milwaukee since 1994.
We’re changing the face and practice of leadership in Milwaukee. At Public Allies Milwaukee, we believe changing times call for a new kind of leadership. Since 1994, we’ve developed over 400 young leaders. Allies are young, diverse, and passionate social change makers who have supported community projects in partnership with over 125 local nonprofit organizations.
Our Allies change their lives and our community through a rigorous AmeriCorps program that combines full-time, paid apprenticeships in nonprofits with intensive skills training, active community-building projects, personalized coaching and critical reflection. We provide all of this through a nationally recognized approach that’s rooted in a practice of values.
Everyone leads… and we walk the talk. Our Allies are ages 18 to 30+, and over 65% are people of color, over 15% identify as LGBTQ, and 58% are college graduates. Allies are of and for our local community, and they share a deep commitment to strengthening Milwaukee. 95% of Allies upon graduation report that they would participate in the program again if they could.
