PUBLIC ALLIES DELAWARE About Us Public Allies Delaware is a program of the University of Delaware (UD) Center for Community Research and Service. We offer the nationally-recognized Public Allies AmeriCorps program, providing a pathway for select talented and diverse young leaders to emerge in communities across the state of Delaware. Since 1994, Public Allies Delaware has developed over 335 young leaders, who have completed nearly 600,000 hours of service to Delaware. For 10 months our Allies are placed in paid professional apprenticeships at local nonprofits where they create, improve, and expand services that address economic opportunity, education, healthy futures, and veterans and military families. Currently there are Allies placed at nonprofits such as Delaware Financial Literacy Institute, ACLU of Delaware, Healthy Foods for Healthy Kids, and Meeting Ground. In addition to the service they provide individually at their apprenticeships, our Allies work with Blueprint Communities to create and implement sustainable community-led team service projects using an asset-based approach. Allies also participate in semi-monthly trainings with local community and civic leaders on topics such as public speaking, conflict resolution, power and privilege, and program evaluation.
