A Leadership Platform Positioned for Growth
In 17 years, Public Allies has grown to 15 communities and graduated more than 2,468 Allies committed to a lifetime of nonprofit and community service. Our mission and programs have inspired more than $33 million in public support, and $45 million from private donors and community partners.
By 2012, Public Allies will:
-
Grow to 1,000 Allies a year in more than 32 communities across the country.
-
Be the first choice AmeriCorps program for young people who are most committed to long-term nonprofit and public service.
-
Grow our Alumni network to more than 5,000 diverse young leaders – 80% will be in nonprofit and public service careers, 20% will be in executive leadership positions and their level of civic engagement will more than double their age cohort.
At the same time, we’ll continue to refine and enhance our leadership development programs while disseminating our practices and lessons to influence thousands of leaders and organizations.
This growth is possible because Public Allies is:
Right For The Times
Public Allies has re-defined leadership for a faster, more diverse world. Public Allies knows how to prepare a new generation to lead, and prepare organizations and communities for their leadership.
Sustainable and Replicable
Public Allies operates our sites through franchise-like partnership with universities or nonprofit organizations in each community.
Diversified and Integrated
We develop new leaders and new ways of leading through our signature AmeriCorps program, Alumni Network, and The Leadership Practice. We provide resources and connections for Allies to pursue a lifetime of leadership, engage and support Alumni leadership, and share our proven approach across sectors through training and consulting.
Profitable and Visible
Public Allies generates real returns for donors and communities. Every $1 invested in our growth generates $11 in service delivered to communities — in addition to the long-term impact Allies continue to generate as leaders in their home communities. (Donate Now!)
National Service Growth
During the past three years, the AmeriCorps funding pool was cut each year, yet Public Allies grew almost 20% a year on average. Now, the new national service bill will expand national service rapidly over the next five years, and we will compete to capture a larger market share of that growth. In addition, President and Mrs. Obama have made promoting national service one of their top causes, and they recognize Public Allies often as their favorite model. Public Allies is well positioned to benefit from the growth of national service to accelerate our growth even more.
Preparing For The Next Wave of Growth
The Edward Kennedy Serve America Act just passed by Congress will open new doors for growth at Public Allies.
