Congratulations! Public Allies believes everyone leads, so when a friend or family member becomes an Ally, you can share their excitement, pride, and hopefully share in their experience. Our Ally program provides a rigorous and rewarding experience — one that’s offered to a select number of talented, diverse youth in 18 communities each year.
Our signature AmeriCorps program combines a 10-month apprenticeship in a nonprofit organization with a challenging leadership development curriculum. Through this curriculum, your Ally will participate in intensive skills training, personalized coaching, critical feedback and reflection, community building and team projects.
It’s a fresh way of developing leaders for changing times… and it’s a nationally recognized model for service. As an AmeriCorps program, Public Allies belongs to the Corporation for National and Community Service and is able to provide Allies with unique benefits through this affiliation, including a monthly stipend, an education award to finance future tuition or pay down student loans, health insurance, and more.
But Public Allies is more than a 10-month experience and a way to pay off student debt. It’s a pathway for ongoing leadership in the community and in the nonprofit sector. We realize there are many myths about working in the nonprofit sector, but at Public Allies, we help diverse young people learn how to make a career out of making a difference. And Allies have the opportunity to fill a growing demand. A recent study indicates that nonprofit organizations will need 640,000 new leaders over the next decade.
Fortunately, your Ally will be part of a growing network of leaders filling this gap! Over 80% of Public Allies Alumni continue to work in the nonprofit and public sectors. Our Alumni are also twice as likely as their peers to participate in volunteer, civic and political activities… and we support a lifetime of leadership through an active Alumni network.
Public Allies’ success in helping young leaders emerge in their home communities has made us a respected, recognized program. We offer consultation on best practices, and we were the first grantee of AmeriCorps to be hired to provide training and technical assistance to all other grantees. And in 2006, the Pew Partnership for Civic Change honored Public Allies with the prestigious Civic Change Award. |
