Public Allies is here for you. Our 10-month, full-time AMERICORPS apprenticeship program can help you get on a pathway to further your education and career, while providing you a unique opportunity to expand your skills to expand your influence & leadership.



Who We Select

We believe everyone leads, and each year we choose people of widely diverse backgrounds to join our signature AmeriCorps program. On average, Allies are two-thirds people of color, 60% are female, 50% are college graduates, and 15% are LGBT.

To participate in the program, individuals must have at least a high school diploma or GED, be a U.S. citizen or have permanent residency, and be at least 17 years of age. You must also be committed to making a difference. We base our selection of Ally applicants on these CORE COMPETENCIES.

What You Get

If selected, you are placed with a local nonprofit organization and participate in a full-time, paid apprenticeship for 10 months. In addition you will attend regular skill-building and leadership development sessions with your cohort of Allies.  You will use your new leadership skills to help strengthen your placement as well as connect to the leaders and organizations in your community to help address real issues.

In addition, you’re eligible to receive:

  • a monthly stipend of $1,300 to $1,800
  • health care, child care, and student loan deferment
  • an education award of $5,550 after completing the program to pay back student loans or pay for future education
